The Extra Mile Fund is an important part of Bethany's International Sponsorship program. It began in 2003 in response to "extra" gifts sent in by many of our sponsors. These gifts were given above and beyond what they had committed to as a sponsor, with the wish that their "extra" gifts be applied to wherever they were most needed.

Bethany's International Sponsorship program meets many of the daily needs of families and children, yet many families struggle with expenses beyond those covered by their standard sponsorship support. Examples include medical/surgical costs, expensive medication, heating for their homes or for an orphanage, wheelchairs, home appliances, and even livestock for greater self-sufficiency. It is a privilege and a blessing to have a fund that provides these essential (but "extra") items to the children and families in our program.

These gifts have been created in response to requests for more information about how sponsors can further support families and children. They highlight many of the ongoing needs of our families. The needs in these catalogs are applicable from now throughout 2010.
